Another great away win for Dungarvan!
Our men’s team travelled away to St. Mary’s in Limerick on Sunday for their biggest test of the season so far. Dungarvan got off to a bad start conceding three points from the off. Dungarvan were playing against a stiff wind which helped Mary’s excellent kicker put three penalties over the bar. After a tough and mistake-ridden first half for Dungarvan, St. Mary’s led 9-0. Dungarvan rallied in the second half and began to turn the tide with some direct rugby and created dominance at set piece. Ten minutes into the second half, Daniel Slevin scored a well worked try in the corner with backs and forwards involved. Dungarvan dominated from here with Slevin touching down again shortly after. Dungarvan settled into a hard fought second half with excellent defence and attack. Séamus Keating then took full advantage of a misplaced kick from Mary’s and beat his opposite number to score in the corner. Mary’s had it all to do with Dungarvan now leading by 11 points. They attacked hard for the remainder of the game but Dungarvan stuck to their guns and defended to the final whistle, only allowing Mary’s another penalty kick. Final score Dungarvan 20 St. Mary’s 15. Another great win for Dungarvan on the road. We now look forward to a well deserved two week break before we host Kanturk on 3rd November.

Cork Con prove too strong for Dungarvan U16’s
Dungarvan entertained Cork Constitution in the second round of the Pan Munster U16 League at Ballyrandle on Saturday. The home team didn’t have the same work rate as they had in the the previous game against Middleton and allowed the Cork team to dominate possession in the tight, scoring three tries through the forwards close in. Dungarvan did manage to get some ball and after a clever kick by Brayden Carter, a superb catch from the flying Donnacha Dunphy saw him touchdown in the corner. HT score Dungarvan 5-Con 19. After half time things didn’t improve with Con adding two further tries but after coaches Paul Carter, Maurice Daly & Eoin Phelan made a raft of changes, Dungarvan thundered into the match in the last twenty minutes, scoring two tries through the backs with Brayden Carter touching down & Conn Williams stretching his long legs to outpace the Con defence. Final score Dungarvan 17 Con 31. Thomas Byrne tackled all day assisted by the hard working Fionn Bowdren & Patsy Coyne, Andy Whelan was energetic throughout. Our next match is away to Fermoy on Saturday 26th October.
