Great season opener for Dungarvan U14’s!
Our U14 team got their season off to a flying start in the East Munster league with a 31-17 victory on Sunday against Carrick-on-Suir. Many of the players were playing in their first league game at this level, so mistakes were expected,  but, handling errors were few and far between. Our forwards, led by Richie, seemed to be able to get over the gainline with each carry and were solid in the set piece. Our backs, marshalled by scrum half Peter, were causing problems for the Carrick defence from the very start. Carrick began the game by forcing their way into our 22, but our boys tackled relentlessly, eventually they turned the ball over and worked their way into the Carrick half. Peter got his hands on the ball, and snipped through to score the first try of the game. Carrick struck back to score minutes later but our backs started to find holes in the Carrick defence and great support play from John saw him zigzag his way in and score under the posts. Charlie was next to get his name on the score sheet with a wonderful run, scoring his first try for Dungarvan. Mark, who had been a thorn in Carrick’s side all morning was rewarded soon after with a try of his own. Concentration started to wane as Carrick struck back to score 2 tries. Dungarvan had the last word though as Charlie ran 50 metres to score his second, and the last try of the game. This was a great performance from all the boys, but, with another game next week at home against Waterpark there is no time to relax. A special word of thanks to our travelling support, who made their presence felt from the sidelines throughout.
